There are many ways to make different brownies: fudgy, cakey, cookie-like, double, or triple chocolate. Brownies are mainly divided into two categories: fudgy and cakey.

Some recipes call for melted chocolate yielding in a dense, fudgy brownie. The other, made with cocoa powder, comes out moist and cakey with a crackly top (as in the picture below). I love both versions, just like I like both, the corners and the center. It is too hard to take sides. Cocoa powder-based brownie recipes are notoriously simple, requiring only a handful of ingredients and little to no equipment. This recipe does not require fancy equipment, no waiting for softened butter, and only a few pantries and fridge staples.

5 Ingredient Brownies

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of all-purpose flour

1 cup of granulated sugar

1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

2 large eggs

1/2 cup of salted butter, melted and cooled + a little extra for greasing the pan

Method:

Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan, the bottom, and the sides. Preheat the oven to 350F.

Whisk the dry ingredients in a bowl: sugar, flour, and cocoa powder.

In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter and the eggs. Mix the dry mixture with the wet mixture gradually, stirring until combined. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and smooth the top into an even layer. Once the top is smooth, you can bake them as they are or garnish them with a sprinkle of Maldon salt, chopped walnuts, chocolate chips, or any topping you prefer. Another way to garnish them is to cool them down, cut them into pieces, and dust them with powder sugar or a mix of powder sugar and cocoa powder. Enjoy them cool or warm, plain or topped with a scoop of ice cream.

If you want to infuse these brownies, you could. Swap the 1/2 cup of butter for 1/2 cup of infused butter.
